About Bruno

Bruno is a yellow Labrador Retriever, born on the 10th of December, 2006. He became a part of the family on the 15th of January, 2007.
The last time he was carried :)
36 days old :)

At 35 days old when we got him home, he was everything you could expect a puppy to be-lazy, scared, timid and a glutton. He was capable of finishing 10 bowls of Cerelac each day. Cliched though this might sound, life changed a lot since he became a part of us. He would wake me up in the middle of the night, just because he wanted to be put on the bed and since he was tiny, he could not get on to the bed by himself. He would whine and howl when he wanted food- this continued till we took him off baby food. There was no way that he would let us forget his meal time. We had to feed him every 2-3 hours and he would lick his bowl clean and drag himself to his bed and sleep until night, the fat fur ball that he was. There was not a time when i would let him out of my sight and he loves sleeping on my books, especially when i am studying. There have been instances when he has even peed on my practical records, on purpose, but has gotten away without being yelled at.

A big lazy pot that he is, he will get up and be hyper the minute we tell him we are going in the car. He loves drives. And vacations. His pictures do not do justice to him, he is way bigger in person and looks like a cross between a Mastiff and a Lab, but he isn't. He is a pure bred Sporting Lab and i still dont know why he is this big, not all sporting Labs are as big as him. He has a really broad skull that makes him resemble a polar bear.

That's shadow sleeping on his neck

Bruno has been brought up with cats and i guess thats why he gets along fine with the felines, without having the urge to chase them around the globe. Though we have had many cats, Bruno gets attached to only a maximum of 2 cats at once. He waits by the door or window, for the cat to return, leaves a little bit of his food in his bowl for the cat to finish.. Who knew a dog was capable of showing such emotion?

He hates being bathed, but doesnt mind walking in the rain; he hates it when we blow air into his ears, but likes sticking out his face out of the window and letting the wind flap his ears.

Bruno has got into a dog fight only once. This happened in the summer of 2010, when we were visiting an aunt, around 500kms away from home. Since i refused to let go off Bruno, we took him to my Aunt's and I had to walk him to the backyard of the house and keep him there-he had to be kept away from everyone's sight and i don't enjoy people pointing at him from a few feet away, like they have never seen a dog in their lives, and saying "OMG! Is that a dog?! Where is he from? How did you get him this far" and all that jazz. Some people are annoying that way.

My Aunt has a German Shepherd, a very friendly and sweet dog, but he dint seem to like the thought of Bruno getting into his territory. As much as we tried to keep the dogs away from each other, we failed, for my Aunt's dog somehow managed to escape and he met Bruno and me half-way on our way to the backyard. The memory has been etched in my brain. The GSD barked at Bruno and charged. Both the dogs were on a stone platform that was at least 4 feet high. The GSD barked and was ready for a fight and Bruno did nothing but stand his ground and not budge. He dint even bark or growl, while i way screaming my guts out, asking him to get away from there. My thoughts were that he is definitely going to get bitten if he doesn't try to defend himself. A good few minutes after falling off the stone platform, and me still too scared to go in between the dogs and take Bruno away from there and screaming him to get out of there, Bruno decides to do something about the situation. He growls. Just one, short growl and the GSD drops the fight and runs away. :| It felt like i was watching a cheesy Hindi movie and i was so shocked that he got out without even a little scratch. That is how patient he is. If he has survived living with me for this long, it is but obvious how patient he is because i trouble him a lot, all out of love, mind you. :D

Bruno took almost a month to get used to Mojo.

I took care of my friends puppy for a month, he lived with me. Bruno sulked throughout that month, refused to come out from under the bed, refused to go near his toys which were taken over by Mojo. There went my plans of getting another pup. Possessive and hates sharing his spotlight with any other dog, but buy him a soft toy and he'll forget all about it and will be entertained for the rest of the month.

Thankfully, he doesn't have any problems with Benzy.

Sometimes, i feel that i would trade anything to get him back to being the stupid little pup that he was. He has a reputation for drinking a whole litre of cooking oil and vomiting for the next two days, and he had swallowed a chunk of coconut shell once, that he had problems getting rid of once it had passed through his digestive system. It wasn't funny then, but it's hilarious now that i think of it!

I plan to have an animal shelter of my own, someday and give back the love that i have received from all the animals i have met so far. Especially Bruno. Or even better, work for an animal sanctuary. :)

3rd birthday.

4th Birthday.

Pretends  he can see a dog from miles away :D
